What Parents Think About Us...

I'm Rashmeet Kaur, mother of Udit Singh and I would like to use this opportunity to thank Mayo, all it's teachers and the Geothe-Institut for my son's six year long journey of the language German. When Udit opted for German in grade 7, I didn't know that it would not just be limited to a classroom subject, but also extend up to the various experiences he has had through exchange programmes, scholarships and youth camps. His highest achievements in the language were being offered a 3 week scholarship to Germany and clearing his FIT A2 level exam. As a grade 12 student now, he has various options to explore in the future- one of them being studying in Germany. I feel extremely proud of his achievements and all the opportunities that the german department has given him and express my sincere gratitude to Mayo and Geothe for making this possible.

My personal views and experiences - The German Department, Mayo College, Ajmer. In the brief 4 months Shashwat got to spend with my father, way back in 2010, was when the seed of intrigue towards every thing German was planted in his mind. My father was fluent in the language and had spent many years at the Daimler Benz training centre in Stuttgart, Germany. His stories from those days, photographs and a shared love for automobiles got Shashwat into the idea hook line and sinker.

Shashwat began his own journey of discovery of everything German with this exchange trip to The Grund-und Hauptschule in the town of Öhningen. Situated on the western edge of Lake Constance at the border between Germany and Switzerland.

As his parents, we were introduced to his partners families and teachers from the host schools. We made new friends. We visited them when we had the opportunity to do so. I have had the pleasure of working on short joint projects with them – like helping out in designing sets for their drama programme and taking short classes and guest lectures. We also had the opportunity to host the visiting children and the teachers at our home. We introduced them to our culture and to interesting local activities.

The Mayo College German Exchange programme is a catalyst for long term cultural and educational relationships for not only the students but also the parents and teachers. The opportunities presented itself and its up to us to nurture them. Having spent so much time visiting and studying in Germany, Shashwat has been able to form a firm and clear decision to peruse his under graduate studies in Germany. His command over the language and cultural exposure will only help him achieve this goal he has set for himself. The German department at Mayo College is fairly new, yet, under the able and amazingly enthusiastic efforts put in by Ma’am Pooja Ahlawat, it has achieved so much in such a short time. It is thanks to her and the school that the seed sown in Shashwat’s mind way back when he was just 5 years old has had such an amazing nurtured growth.

I wish Ma’am Pooja and The Mayo College all the very best for the German Festival. I shall be happy to help out in any way, just let me know!!
